If you encounter a Subaru equipped with electronic power steering (2014 Tribeca is an example), where the EPS (electronic power steering) light is on without a DTC and there is a heavy steering feel, check to see if the battery terminals are clean and properly torqued. If the nut on the battery terminal becomes loose or badly contaminated, this can result in a momentary loss in power to the electronic power steering circuit.

Check for battery terminal cleanliness and check the tightness of the nut (requires a 10mm wrench).
